Greater efficiency for hybrid and electric drive systems thanks to an innovative shift element made by HOERBIGER: the TorqueLINE Twin Cone decreases drag losses by as much as 90 percent and saves up to 25 percent of resources and weight. These advantages also impressed the judging panel of the German Innovation Award. They presented the Gold Award in the "E-mobility technologies" category to HOERBIGER during the award ceremony on May 28 in Berlin.
In total, this year the German Innovation Award received 695 entries in 40 categories across sectors. The judging panel recognized the best products and solutions for their exceptional ingenuity, including the HOERBIGER TorqueLINE Twin Cone. During the award ceremony, Andreas Dempfle and Jürgen Binder, who played a decisive role in the development of the innovation, were presented the highest of all awards.
The TorqueLINE Twin Cone replaces traditional multi-disk clutches and is considerably more efficient than standard clutch systems. "The new HOERBIGER shift element reduces drag losses by as much as 90 percent, lowering the vehicle's fuel consumption and CO2 emissions," Andreas Dempfle emphasized. "In addition, the system decreases actuating forces by up to 60 percent."
Thanks to the compact design, the TorqueLINE Twin Cone helps to save resources: producing it requires as much as 25 percent less steel, making the system one quarter lighter than traditional multi-disk clutches.
"Despite the innovative design, the Twin Cone is readily compatible. Manufacturers are able to replace their traditional multi-disk clutch systems without complex adaptations," Jürgen Binder explained. "The Twin Cone has the same dimensions and interfaces as a standard clutch system, and the system's actuation and manner of lubrication also does not require changes."
The TorqueLINE Twin Cone is suitable for use in hybrid and electric drives—a high growth market. As a result of the extensive increase in efficiency and the positive contribution to the reduction of material, weight, fuel consumption and emissions, the system helps manufacturers to respond to the rising requirements of future mobility.
