establish joint venture in China

January 15, 2016, Shanghai: HOERBIGER Antriebstechnik Holding GmbH headquartered in Schongau, Germany, has established a joint venture with Chengdu HAONENG Technology Co., Ltd., Chengdu, China. Operating under the name HAONENG HOERBIGER DriveTech (Shanghai) Co., Ltd (HHDTS), the alliance will cover the development, sale, and trade of synchronizer components and systems for automobile transmissions in China.

The joint venture entity will commence operations on March 1, 2016 at its headquarters in Shanghai. Additional locations of the entity will include the HOERBIGER plant in Changzhou and the HAONENG sites in Chengdu, Chongqing and Luzhou.

HOERBIGER is considered the global market leader in synchronizer solutions. HAONENG is one of China's leading manufacturers of synchronizer system components. Joining forces will allow the two companies to offer customers not only a product portfolio that encompasses all components of synchronizers, but also the best system solutions from one source, creating significant added value for the customer.

The vision and mission of HOERBIGER and HAONENG are an excellent fit. The vision that the newly appointed management composed of Chaodong Xiang (Chairman of HHDTS) and Michael Haberl (Chief Executive Officer, Legal Representative and Vice Chairman of HHDTS) has formulated for the joint venture is clear: "We synchronize – 我们同步一致".


About synchronizers

Synchronizers are performance-defining key components of manual transmissions (MTs), automated manual transmissions (AMTs), and dual clutch transmissions (DCTs). They are responsible for smooth and comfortable gear shifting in automobiles and other road vehicles. Since the gears normally run at different speeds, a smooth shift from one gear to another requires a synchronizer to match the speeds during the actual shift. The performance of the synchronizer system is defined by the design of the friction system and form-fit torque transfer.
