In 2008, the HOERBIGER Group also came under pressure from the recession triggered by the global financial and economic crises. In 2009, sales slumped to EUR 772 million. For the first time in many years, the Group's result was negative.
Nonetheless, HOERBIGER invested in the future. In January 2009, the Strategic Business Unit Compression Technology acquired Altronic, Inc. in Girard, Ohio, USA, and became a worldwide leading manufacturer of ignition systems for industrially used gas-powered engines.
At the same time, the Service Division of HOERBIGER Compression Technology was able to supplement its portfolio with the maintenance, repair, and efficiency increase of compressors and gas-powered engines by acquiring Tritech Compression, Inc. in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada.
With the acquisition of the compressor valve business from Gala, which also occurred in 2009, HOERBIGER lastingly positioned itself as one of the leading providers of valves and valve plates for fully hermetic compressors in the worldwide market for refrigeration and air-conditioning applications.
In 2010, HOERBIGER successfully continued the comprehensive restructuring process in all Strategic Business Units, which the company initiated in 2008, before the onset of the financial and economic crises.
By the end of 2012, sales reached EUR 1.06 billion. HOERBIGER has a stable position, both strategically and financially, and is well-equipped for the future.
