BOT (balanced overlapping tangent) ring pairs are used in pressure packings of new and retrofitted reciprocating compressors for a variety of compression processes. Typical applications include the compression of heavy gases as well as air compression.

As a result of their unique design, HOERBIGER BOT ring pairs solve the problem of premature wear of the first ring pair. The special geometry of the rings assures that all ring pairs of the pressure packing specifically and uniformly contribute to reducing the pressure. This eliminates load peaks on individual rings, considerably boosting durability and reliability. In addition, friction and the temperature on the packing decrease. This increases both the efficiency and service life of the compressor.

Pressure balancing is achieved by the special L shape of the radial ring supporting the tangent cut ring. Select materials offering excellent tribological properties assure minimized wear and friction loss. This allows average piston speeds up to 6 m/s, operating temperatures as high as 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit), and operating pressures up to 100 bar. The rings are available for piston rods measuring 14 to 200 millimeters (0.55 to 7.8 inches) in diameter.
